Healthy Mind
During the pandemic, the social developments among teens were significantly hindered. The debate over whether the extended lock-down to mildly lower the risk of physical health was worthwhile to sacrifice mental health was never concluded. However, we realized the extreme importance of mental health among children and in our community.
Do you know that nearly one in five adults in America live with a mental illness, and over 1 in 5 youth at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness? Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Nowadays, with social media heavily used among teens, social connection through in-person communication has been decimated. Study shows that face-to-face communication provides much stronger emotional support for human’s well being. While social media helps build wider connection among people, it also creates a tremendous amount of stress and peer pressure among teens. It is believed that we are likely going through a national mental health crisis. With fast-growing development in AI and technology, mental health is expected to become a more serious public health issue. Our Healthy Mind initiatives are to raise awareness about mental health in our community, provide a platform for those who are vulnerable to share their voices and connect with alternative resources to help those in need.
